Goddamn i feel better now. Cup-o-tea and some bad santa chocolate has made a world of difference.
So here is m y fun-filled weekend.
Friday - had plans to go down to the Waggon and see Rentboy pay with the Roobs but no one would come with me and really, I was a bit sleep and had to get up at 7am for Gone South so to bed I went. Watched some of the Shane MacGowan Doco (sad) and all of the Liberace doco (even sadder in a crazy man sort of way, this man made his teenage lover have plastic surgery to look like him!!!)
Saturday: Up at 7 to get ready for gone south. Took up Jes and Mel. The festival was pretty bad. Got there, got in the gates. Checked out the backstage area to figure out the best place for getting interviews. Proceeded to walk to the local stage>toilets>food>shady spot under a tree all day. The vibe ws really really bad..acutlaly it was non-existent. Supposedly 7 thousand but it didn't feel like that many at all. Argh when will Touber give up? I don't want it to end, I think Tassie having it's own festival run by and for the state is a great idea but the man obviously doesn't have a fucking clue.
The highlight of the day was definitely 1200 techniques. Thanks to Stef I have really been getting into aus hip hop and while they are not the best of the bunch they were the first band of the day that people really seemed to enjoy. Managed to get back stage and had a chat to Jason.
Left basically straight after that. Spotted Enola Fall going in the front gate just as I was leaving, talked to them later (well Matt) and heard it was pretty fucking crap for them)
Got to Stay South. it was at the Doghouse, possibly the dodgiest pub in Hobart (although the regulars that make it dodgy clear out on band nights) and I guess there was about 30 - 40 people there. This was the best local gig I had been to for a long time. Everyone was really up and nothing really seemed to be fucking up. Changeovers weren't too long and all bands played really fucking well.
highlights
The Horror - Without being biased I thought they were awesome. I had seen them at Origorama before but they were drunk (and so was I) so that doesn't count. they managed to stay reasonably sober all day and they played really well. It made me happy
howarcide: Fucking hell. It's a pity their drummer lives in Melbourne, I would like to see these polite young lads play more often.
Karaoke for my Shadow: Don't think I stayed for it all, and had heard about their talents from an ex friend of mine, I was quite impressed with these guys as well.
frontline choir: Not really my cup of tea but seemed to go down really well.
Didn't catch Rentboy but i'm sure they rocked (;))
Sunday: Got up late and went around to Chris' for a BBQ. It was bareable but I left after a couple of hours. Went home, got stoned and watched a doco on silent movies. Fell asleep. Woke up and ate some dinner and som raspberry lamingtons (don't!). Went back to sleep again.
I am paranoid about boys though. I wish I was a mindreader and I wish *they* were mind readers too. arrrghh. |
